The Force Behind The Lift - Meet Steven Taylor

Today we sat down with Steven Taylor, senior engineer with Rotary Lift®. Steve is currently a huge driver of some of our new product designs. The energy and experience he brings everyday are shown in the quality of product it produces. It's employees like Steve that make Rotary Lift what is is today. Take a few minutes to meet Steven, one of Rotary’s Force Behind the Lift.
Q:  How long have you been with Rotary Lift?

Steven:  4+ years. Plan to make it 20!

Q:  What do you enjoy about your job?

Steven:  I love designing things. I like to help make the world a better place through products that enable our customers do their jobs easier and faster than they do today. I love innovation - continually making the future products more capable and affordable than the products currently on the market.

Q:  What is your background in engineering?

Steven:  I have 34 years of engineering experience that includes three college degrees. I started out designing solid rocket motors for my first 10 years, followed 5 years of weapon surveillance systems, 4 years of refrigerators, 3 years of power tools, and finally 8 years of agricultural equipment. I feel most of engineering is basically the same process – Requirements Analysis, Structural Calculations and Modeling, Testing, and Launch. We just apply the same, sound engineering principles to different products trying to exceed our customer’s future expectations.

Q:  What is your favorite part of creating or designing something new?

Steven:  Working with people. From working with our customers to manufacturing to suppliers – just the interaction with everybody is great. People are fundamentally good in their heart and the more you get to know them the better off you are. The workplace has become more global – and Rotary leads the way. We just had a phone call at 4:00 AM in the morning on the new product I am designing and we had Sales/Marketing personnel from USA, Brazil, China, India, Germany, and England on the phone all at one time – that was exciting!

Steve_Taylor_CPUQ:  During your work career or personal life what are you most proud of?

Steven:  That is easy - my life as a Christian. While I have more faults than I can count, my relationship with Jesus is absolutely the thing I am most proud of. As a part of his plan, my wife and I have adopted two older children from Ukraine and one older child from Thailand. My family has been truly blessed.

Q:  What is one fun fact about you that people may not know?

Steven:  My oldest daughter just graduated from University of Kentucky, and is now going to Harvard Law School. Only 25% of the people selected to Harvard Law School are straight from undergraduate school – quite an accomplishment – honored to be a small part of her life.

Q:  What do you enjoy doing in your time away from work?

Steven:  I really enjoy working on cars. With 5 children, have 5 cars in my fleet – vehicles worth $200 to $2000. Obviously the vehicles are in continual need of repair – however, enjoy the challenges they provide.

Q:  Would you consider yourself more of a music or sports person?

Steven:  Sports. I like doing more than watching though. I’ve run mini-marathons for over a decade now, but ran my first full Marathon this year. Came in 18th out of 117 runners in my age group – not bad for my first time!

Q:  If you purchased one Rotary Lift product what would it be?  Why?

Steven:  SPOA10. Can pick-up anything up to 10,000 lbs and they last forever. Most reliable and productive lift on the market
