The Force Behind the Lift - Meet Yancy York

A look at the people that make Rotary Lift

We'd like you to meet Yancy York, senior product consultant with Rotary Lift.

I am sure many of you have spoken with Yancy over the years. We wanted you to have a chance to learn a little more about him.

PopPops_girlIn October, Yancy York is coming up on 18 years of service at Rotary Lift. He started his career in our two-post cell and then moved to 2nd shift, where he worked in the Smartlift cell. Yancy worked on the shop floor for 10 years and then made the move to Customer Service. He has been in Customer Service for almost 8 years. His knowledge is invaluable and leaned on every day.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about your job?

Yancy: I love RAI [Rotary Authorized Installers] class. I love to teach and speak in front of people. I feel like I do that very well. I have taught Smartlift ever since I moved to Customer Service. I have worked with Smartlift from the beginning. I have welded and assembled, so I know the Smartlift inside and out.

Q: What about your role is different than someone else in your position?

Yancy: I am a Senior Product Consultant. I handle our online order processor, unless I’m out of the office. So, any order that comes in online I am the one behind the scenes processing it. With any new employee I tend to get their questions. I may get a question transferred to me if someone else doesn’t know the answer and I handle that. I handle in-ground because I have the knowledge of a lot of the older in-ground lifts such as the DTO’s.

Note – Yancy worked at the local K-Mart Service Center, which had Rotary in-ground lifts. He began his experience understanding our product before he even walked in our doors. He handled the repairs on the lift during his stint at K-Mart; which only helped his understanding and expertise of the product he has today.

Q: What is one fun fact about you that people may not know?

Yancy: I’d rather be farming.

Note – Yancy has a very large garden and the office is always supplied with great fresh produce from his house, which we all appreciate.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your time away from work?

Yancy: I’m a family man. When I go home we pretty much stay home. That is the one place I want to go every day. When I take a vacation day people ask, where are you going? I say, I’m staying home. If I had it my way I’d be an old farmer, with my family, out in Oklahoma.
We are also into genealogy. I have filing cabinets full of names. Benjamin Franklin is my seventh great uncle. Pocahontas is in my genealogy. We aren’t completely sure how she falls into place but we know she is in our family tree. So, genealogy is a big deal for us. When someone calls in - at work - with a new name, I am always thinking where is that name from?

Q: If you purchased one Rotary Lift product what would it be? Why?

Yancy: I’d buy a four post alignment rack, because with that you can make so much money. With that you can put in shocks and struts. That’s what I did in the past. I did alignments for a lot of the dealerships. Of all the past jobs I’ve had I miss doing alignments. That sounds crazy but I loved that.
