 me-and-lift-wide

Today, you get to meet the man behind the camera — the man behind the making of any Rotary Lift® videos. His name is Brad McAlister, and we couldn't be happier to have him on our team! We're sure you've seen his work! The videos he's produced provide our customers' with a look inside our company and a closer look at our products. He has been one of the main contributors to our brand new "Raised In Madison™" campaign and has helped us bring that campaign to life through video.

We are sure you will enjoy this Q&A - some serious and some funny answers. You can get to know Brad better, and see his extensive background in video production! So without further ado - Mr. Brad McAlister, video and multi-media specialist with Rotary Lift.

Q:  How long have you been with Rotary Lift?

Brad:  I’ve been the Video and Multi-Media Specialist for Rotary Lift since 2012 (the year the world was supposed to end).

Q:  What does a normal day at work consist of?

Brad:  I can‘t really say I have a normal day…every day is different for me.  Some days I’m shooting video, some days I’m editing, and some days I’m taking photos.  The one thing that is a guarantee is that a day doesn’t go by that I’m not shooting or editing in some shape or form.

Q:  What do you enjoy about your job?

Brad:  I love that I get to be creative every day.  I get to use my artistic side, from picking the perfect music for a video to making sure I get the right shots.

EMMY-Winners-optimizedQ:  What is your background in video production?

Brad:  A month after I earned a bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Electronic Media from Eastern Kentucky University I was hired on at the NBC affiliate in Louisville Kentucky.  I worked as a video editor for WAVE 3 News for 5 years and then as a Promotion Producer for another 5 years.  While I was with WAVE 3 my work received three Emmy Nominations and my last year with them I was lucky enough to win one.

Q:  What makes a good video?

Brad:  It takes a lot of things to make a video good.  You need to have a clear message, the right music bed, good footage, clean edits, and the pacing needs to be right.  Anyone can edit a video, but not everyone can make a good one.

Q:  What is your favorite project you’ve done for Rotary Lift?

Brad:  I love our testimonial videos that let customers do the talking, but I’d say our “Raised in Madison” series has been my favorite hands down.  They’ve taken the most time to put together, but it’s been such a pleasure spending time with all of the men and women that actually build the lifts.  It truly amazes me what some of our people can do.

fms_1Q:  What is one fun fact about you that people may not know?

Brad:  Back in my college days I played guitar for the band Flat Mary Stone.  We recorded two albums, toured 5 states, and one of our songs was used on “Inside the NBA”.

Q:  What do you enjoy doing in your time away from work?

Brad:  When I’m not at work I try to spend time with my wife Farrah and my 4 year old daughter Lillie, I shoot photos, and play music.

Q:  Who’s your favorite sports team? If you don’t like sports why? What happened to you?

Brad:  I never really got into sports.  I just always had other things to do that interested me.  Okay, seriously not every man on earth is into sports…if you want to spend your time yelling at a TV screen that’s fine by me.

Q:  If you purchased one Rotary Lift product what would it be?  Why?

Brad:  My favorite lift would have to be the MACH Series.  But, I’d love to get the Rotary Techlight…because it looks like a lightsaber!
