Today we are speaking with Melissa Jackson, HR Coordinator for Rotary Lift.
The human resources department is a new employee’s initial encounter with their employer, so a good first impression is important for the growth of a career. At Rotary, that first impression, is Melissa Jackson and she makes for a great guide to start your journey. A 9 year veteran of Rotary she has helped countless employees not only start a great job, but grow a great career.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
Melissa: The people. "Genuine" is how I would describe the people of Rotary Lift and what makes it such a great place to work. Even with all the different personalities across the organization, everyone really works well together as a team.
Q: What is your work background in?
Melissa: I graduated from University of Central Arkansas with BSE in Health Education. I eventually ended up in Human Resources in my earlier career and decided that was my "niche". One of my main functions at Rotary is working with recruiting, from start to finish. Finding candidates with the right "fit" is equally as important as their skills. If someone does not fit with the organization, it makes it hard to be successful for everyone. Sometimes finding these candidates are not always easy. But, when we do, it's well worth the wait.
Q: What is one thing about working in where you do that people may not know?
Melissa: Human Resources is the "go to" department. We get a lot of requests or questions thrown our way and we have to be ready to respond and react. We have to be available at all times because the employees are our customers. So those daily tasks a lot of the time get put to the side.
Q: What is one of the biggest challenges to your job?
Melissa: Probably just trying to make everyone happy.
Q: During your work career or personal life what are you most proud of?
Melissa: I'm most proud of where I am in life, both personally and professionally. My family is the most important to me. I am blessed to have such a supportive family.
Q: What is one fun fact about you that people may not know?
Melissa: You could probably call me a "fitness junky". I love everything about fitness. I'm constantly researching / reading and trying new workouts. Also, I have competed in 14 fitness competitions for the past 6 years. I am proud to say I have placed or won at every show. I absolutely love the self-discipline it takes to prepare for a show.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your time away from work?
Melissa: Working out of course! I enjoy spending time with my family and going on bike rides with my husband, both the kind you peddle and the kind that does all the work! And, spoiling my two fur babies!
Q: Are you a music person or a sports person?
Melissa: I don't follow a lot of sports, but I have been a Steelers fan since I was little. It all started as a sibling rivalry when my brother was a Cowboys fan and I HAD to be for the opposite team...those were the good ole days!
Q: If you purchased one Rotary Lift product what would it be? Why?
Melissa: I would probably get a motorcycle lift. My husband and I bought a Harley Davidson, so it would come in handy. Not to mention, it would fit in our garage!
